In the last few weeks, I’ve started several different books and haven’t finished any. I think [...]

Actually, this one may not be so wacky. I saw this evening where someone had been searching for occurrences of knives in the Bible, specifically the word “knife.” By the way, when I searched for knife, I went first to the ESV website and then to Biblegateway, both listed under Useful Links in the right-hand [...]

Wacky questions. You know, like if I say to my history class “Lincoln was shot at the Ford Theater,” and a student asks “What movie was he watching?” This is my second installment of wacky theological questions and/or search engine terms. Today’s example is of the latter.

Today is the third Sunday of Advent. As I’ve been writing on Advent, I had to admit that I’m sort of new to celebrating it myself. My family didn’t have an Advent tradition as I grew up, so I’ve only been studying it for a couple of years. I shared some resources in my first post, [...]

Isaiah prophesied of the coming Messiah, saying that a virgin would conceive and have a child, and his name would be called Immanuel. When Matthew quotes Isaiah he adds that Immanuel means “God with us.” That’s the true meaning of Christmas.
I recently wrote that when we could not come to God, he came to us. [...]

As a small child, we are taught a few emotional expressions. We all learn happy, sad, angry and surprised at a young age. The natural maturation process eventually teaches us that all things are not so simple. Sometimes good news has a sting to it, or we take bad news and try to find the [...]
