News Notes: Changes at Planned Parenthood

Screenshot 2019-07-11 at 7.50.56 PMThere are stories in the news from time to time that either affect Christians directly or that we should at least be paying attention to. The Master’s Table does not post on American politics. Our goal here it to be God honoring and Christ centered. Abortion is a morality issue and one that many struggle with. No matter your political affiliation, or even if you have none at all, this time in our history is seeing a lot of change in the way abortion is regarded. New York has recently passed the most liberal abortion law in the country while states like Georgia, Alabama and others seek to eliminate not only late term abortions but virtually all procedures after the first six weeks. And now this:

Planned Parenthood Federation of America removed its president, Leana Wen, only 10 months after naming her to that position. She considers abortion a health care issue and it looks, according to the New York Times, like they were hoping for a more political response. “Philosophical differences” is the official reason listed for her termination. Nothing about Wen’s stance seems to have changed; with her medical background she has always considered abortion a health care issue. They must have known last year who they were hiring. She did personally suffer a miscarriage earlier this year though she has not indicated a change in her position on abortion. The feds are cutting government funding of Planned Parenthood by about 10% and perhaps they are gearing up for a political confrontation they do not believe Wen is right for.

It’s a little strange and Wen is as surprised as anyone. Read more here via Baptist Press.
