area 51 festival

We should thank the Area 51 Raid organizers for all the memes (see here and here). It started as a joke back in June, when college student Matty Roberts created a Facebook event. “Storm Area 51, they can’t stop all of us” the title suggested. The event posting went viral and some 2 million people RSVP’d prompting a very real response from the US Air Force. Roberts quit laughing when FBI agents showed up at his door. In the end, the event was re-imagined as a music festival which turned into three different competing music festivals. Local towns near the base, which of course don’t amount to much which is the very reason it is located there, became concerned about thousands of tourists and festival goers showing up. Rachel, NV, has a population of 50 and only 1 hotel.

Well that was fun. Here’s a few more items you may or may not have seen before.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture has never been my favorite film from the franchise. But when it returns to theaters to celebrate the 40th anniversary what can you do? That’s me on the right wearing the Spock t-shirt (Trek yourself before you wreck yourself). Dudley’s girlfriend and my wife saw the movie but were not interested in being in this picture.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary is adding 533 new words including a new use for the word they. It can now be used as a gender neutral pronoun for an individual whose gender is nonbinary. I’m just gonna share that information and proceed without comment.

Last Saturday Charlie Culberson took a 91 mph pitch to the face after squaring up to bunt. He was on the field with his family in Atlanta just four days later to accept the Braves nomination for the Roberto Clemente Award. Each team selects one player for consideration, click here to read more about the award and cast a ballot. Charlie Clutch will miss the rest of this season but will be with the team and is expected to be back in time for spring training.

Speaking of the Braves they clinched the NL East division title last night in a home game vs. the Giants. Game 1 of the postseason will be played on October 3rd.

This week on The Master’s Table:

LifeWay is advertising on Facebook, the comments are less than Christ-like.

Heaven, Hell and the Gospel is the full text of a sermon I preached in 2015.

Dolly Parton – yeah I know right – joined For King & Country for a God Only Knows remix.

Well that’s what my week was like. How did you come out? Share in the comments, enjoy your weekend, visit a place of worship, Van Til will have your back on Monday. Live long and prosper.
