Super Bowl ads, am I right? Chrysler had decided not to run a Super Bowl ad this year and changed their mind quickly when Bill Murray finally responded to their requests in the middle of January. The Groundhog Day flashback was filmed in three days at the original locations. There was no script, they just filmed Bill Murray improvising. Murray isn’t known for making commercials or pitching products but he decided fans of the cult classic Groundhog Day deserved this one.
The Groundhog Day Jeep ad and the Famous Visitors spot for Walmart Pickup were my personal favorites. I give Sam Elliott and Little Nas X an honorable mention for their Doritos Cool Ranch entry.
Interesting weather we’re having. We had some schools close early one day and start on a 2 hour delay the next due to flash flooding. Many southeastern states got more rain this week than typically falls in the entire month of February. We expect flurries this morning followed by more rain.
The lost art of conversation hearts – When the New England Confectionery Company (NECCO) went out of business in 2018 we almost lost some American treasures. Most of you may not miss NECCO wafers or Squirrel Nut Zippers but what about Clark Bar and the ubiquitous Sweethearts? Spangler acquired the rights to make Sweethearts but not in time to get them on store shelves by Valentines Day back in 2019. The good news is that they are back now… sort of. They are in short supply and you may or may not be able to find them this year either. The bad news is that if you do find them, as I did, there will be a lot more blank hearts than in years past. They have had a time getting the candy heart printer to work right. I went through a whole box and didn’t find one message. Others, as shown above, have misaligned text or just gibberish. More details here. Maybe next year.
The Jesus Bible is my next book review you can expect one day this next week. First published by Zondervan in 2017, the Jesus Bible has articles throughout and introductions to each book that emphasises the central nature of Jesus to the entire story. Available in either NIV or ESV with contributions from heavy hitters like John Piper, Ravi Zacharias and Randy Alcorn.
That’s what I’ve been doing wrong, actually putting my hands on the guitar. My dad taught me to play at home. I guess you have to pay for professional lessons to do that magic, floaty thing.
I guess that’s about it for this week. As a public service I’d like to remind all guys that Valentine’s Day is next Friday. It’s on February 14th again this year, and every year. Stay warm and dry everybody and we’ll catch up with you next week.
UPDATE: I said early this morning we expected flurries followed by rain. “Flurries” turned into a few hours of heavy snowfall and it never rained, at least not here. Several counties in north Georgia got 1 or 2 inches of accumulation. Here’s a pic of our house.
