Satur-deja Vu

Yesterday was Juneteenth. President Trump had planned to hold a rally in Tulsa, OK, on that date but pushed it back one day after outcry over Juneteenth which celebrates the end of slavery in America every June 19th. I didn’t know about Juneteenth until this week, despite having taught American History. The Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863 but the June 19th date did not become significant until 1865. Slavery was not done away with in the United States until the 13th amendment was passed.

June 19th is a date near and dear to me for another reason. I was saved (or accepted Christ, became a Christian, whatever vocabulary suits your faith tradition) back on June 19, 1988. There’s probably a sermon illustration in there somewhere about salvation, freedom, and no longer being enslaved to sin. You know preachers, anything could be a sermon illustration.

Pink Starburst water, self-driving floor mop, Father’s Day pics after the jump.

It’s hot, you’re thirsty, the first day of summer is a great time to remind everyone to stay hydrated. This powdered drink mix will make your bottled water taste like pink Starburst. Yeah I know, right?

Zamboni meets Roomba. That floor cleaner isn’t parked, it’s fully autonomous. This is a screen grab from the 1 minute video I made at our local Walmart. Facebook users can click here to watch.

My first guitar lesson. My dad did later teach me to play guitar, some 13 or 14 years after this pic was taken. Father’s Day is tomorrow and so below are a few pics of my celebration of Father’s Day over the years. Maybe someday when I’m gone Johannah can pull these up online and say “Yep, that’s the goofball I remember.”

Father’s day 2011. This pic is the one we posed and smiled for. I almost like the next one better, which was a candid shot of us trying to get ready for a real one.

My dad passed in 2010. So in 2011 I celebrated with my family and honored Dad by wearing one of his ties.

Fathers Day 2016

2016, posing with all my Father’s Day gifts.

Father’s Day 2017. The Cars 3 logo is there because we saw a Sunday afternoon matinee. Families go out to restaurants on Mother’s Day but on Father’s Day we are expected to grill. I got a new grill for Father’s Day a couple of years ago and I’m okay with that.

This year was the first time I was not at church with my family on Easter Sunday. Same with Mother’s Day. Some of you may be in church tomorrow with social distancing guidelines in place. Others may have been to church for the past two or three weeks but an uptick in Covid-19 cases has brought a second round of restrictions. We are actually planning to start meeting again in person next week on June 28th. This year will certainly be one for the history books. Love God, love your neighbor, share the Gospel. Try to make the best of things. Peace and God bless my friends.
