Satur-deja Vu

Hostess Iced Latte is a real product btw, not a clever parody. They come in Ding Dongs, Twinkies, Honey Bun and sno balls flavors. Brought to you by 2020, the gift that keeps on giving.

Here are some other headlines, memes and true stories you may or may not have seen this week. Welcome to the Satur(day) Deja Vu.

Speaking of things brought to you by 2020, there could be two hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico at the same time on Tuesday. A similar event happened in 1933. I’m getting conflicting details that claim one was a hurricane and the other a tropical storm and other narratives that suggest one hurricane was over Florida while another hurricane formed in the western Gulf of Mexico. In either case, Hurricane Laura and the other as of yet unnamed system (it will be Marco) could be the first two hurricanes to occupy the Gulf of Mexico at the same time in recorded weather history. There is also disagreement over whether the two could combine to form a single superstorm or if the rotation of the colliding systems would cancel each other out. Consult your FB or Twitter feed for more “experts” than you can shake a stick at.

“Do you think God can hear you pray with a mask on?” I think God can hear you pray whether you speak clearly and loudly, very quietly, or not at all. He knows the thoughts and intents of our hearts. He understands spiritual groanings when we don’t know what to say. Jim Bakker thinks God cannot hear so well. Maybe he needs to see your lips move to help him sound out the words. Speak louder Jim, maybe your god has gone to relieve himself. Try cutting yourself with knives, that will get his attention.

I’m not going to tell you who to vote for but allow me to offer some insight into interpreting that graph. 37% of Trump supporters surveyed say they will be angry if Biden wins the election. But 61% of probably Biden voters say they will feel angry if Trump wins. Much of what the Democratic candidates have going for them in November is negative Trump energy. The majority of Trump supporters would be disappointed but not angry if Biden wins the White House.

I’ve been grilling a lot of meat and vegetables lately. The wife is trying Keto (I should say has had a lot of success with Keto) and I try to make something Keto friendly each night for dinner. I continue eating the same cereal and skim milk or oatmeal for breakfast that I have eaten for years and often we are in different places having different meals for lunch. We still eat supper as a family most nights so meat and non-potato vegetables, salads, and sometimes all veg meals are on the menu.

I did not know that Mike Bell was about to publish Michael Spencer’s Bible study of Mark when I decided to repost Internet Monk Radio. Click here for the latest Reconsider Jesus post; click here for iMonk Radio podcast #103 and to read up on why we’re starting at episode #103.

Also this week on The Master’s Table, part 1 of my new Hebrews Bible study.

UGA football

UGA has published a 2020 football schedule. All SEC teams will play ten games with no games out of conference. Each school will decide if fans will be allowed in the stadium. If so then numbers will be limited and masks will be required. There will be no tailgating allowed on campus. Keeping up with what each conference is doing, including those that have postponed football season until the spring vs. schools that have cancelled all fall sports, gets really complicated. Here is everything we know at this point, just scroll through and find the school of your choice.

Happy retirement Louis Frank Jones. After 63 years as a carhop at The Varsity, the world’s largest drive-in in downtown Atlanta, Jones has officially retired at the age of 89. Serving hot dogs, hamburgers and Coca-Cola since 1957, Jones has met numerous celebrities and athletes noting that Evander Holyfield is perhaps the best tipper. “He’s a $40, $50 tipper.” Affectionately known as Car Hop #1, the Varsity says they will retire his number. Well we’ve covered news, weather and sports with reports from food, religion and human interest. Enjoy your weekend, worship with other believers in some form or fashion, check in with Van Til on Monday. Speaking of Van Til, we might want to have that discussion before we get too much further into iMonk Radio. That will be a short post next week. Until then…

  1. I think it is great that you are reposting the iMonk radio podcasts. I “may” have some that you are missing. I did a deep internet dive when I was doing my original research and gathered up all audio files that I could find. Unfortunately they are on a computer that recently gave up the ghost. I have a friend who could grab them off the hard drive. I know I grabbed all the coffee cup apologetics that I could lay my hands on and I may have earlier versions of Imonk radio as well.
