Satur-deja Vu

There’s something you don’t see every day. We had a visitor at church Sunday morning. This girl stayed for the whole service. As a matter of fact she was still wandering around the front yard Monday evening. Back in the day it was not uncommon to give the preacher a chicken but I would not have expected it to still be alive.

Speaking of chickens – no that’s not her. These are the chicken leg quarters I smoked last Saturday. The Boston Butt turned into a 14+ hour fiasco back on July 4th. Sear these for a few minutes on each side in an iron skillet and they can be smoked in an hour and a half, maybe two hours. That’s chicken with broccoli rice on the side burner. Yummy yummy.

The World’s largest ouija board was built last year about this time in Salem, Massachusetts. You should recognize that name from the Salem witch trials. Just a few weeks later a new coronavirus was discovered. The United States has the highest number of active Covid cases in the world at this time. Now, I’m not saying the two things are related… but I’ve been told many times there is no such thing as coincidence.

The fly landing on Mike Pence’s head during Tuesday’s VP candidates debate was the most exciting thing that happened that night. Maya Rudolph was already set to appear on Saturday Night Live to play Kamala Harris, and now thousands of Jeff Goldblum fans are petitioning for him to make an appearance as The Fly! That’s probably not going to happen. Not because Goldblum doesn’t have the sense of humor for it but because he is in London filming a new Jurassic Park. Production has shut down since a few people involved tested positive for Covid and everyone else is quarantined.

“The Atlanta Braves are a formidable obstacle in the Dodgers path to the World Series” reports the LA Times. Did you catch that? Not the Atlanta Journal-Constitution or even an ESPN writer; the LA Times is warning Dodger fans not to blow off Atlanta’s chances. The Dodgers had the best MLB record in the regular season, 47 – 13. But the Braves swept first the Cincinnati Reds and then the Miami Marlins, shutting out the opposing team in 4 out of 5 post-season games. I don’t know if the Braves can beat the Dodgers or not but now is the time to find out. They have never been better than they are right now!

Are there too many birds in this post? What is the ideal bird to blog post ratio? Farmers and grocers are expecting demand for smaller turkeys this year. 60% of Americans say they will not be traveling this holiday season. Family gatherings may be smaller this year so look for fewer turkeys period and smaller ones when you do find them. Consider roasting a turkey breast instead of a whole bird. That’s what grocery stores are expecting anyway.

Sometimes I find acorns with smiley faces on them. Or I find acorns and draw faces on them, whatever.
