The leader of the 400 Mawozo gang is demanding $1 million ransom be paid for each of the 17 missionaries they hold hostage or he has vowed to begin executing them. Pictures and video have been released that appear to confirm all 17 are still alive. The US State Department believes the video to be legitimate. Christian Aid Ministries does not want to make any comment that may endanger the lives of those missionaries being held. I have a pastor friend that has traveled to Haiti many times both for humanitarian relief and to train local pastors to be effective in their ministry. Haiti is an impoverished nation with government corruption and mismanagement of the highest order. Pray for the people of Haiti, these 17 missionaries in particular, and the political situation which prevents conditions from changing.

Hunger Walk goes virtual. A lot of things have been different this year if they were not cancelled altogether. Movie theaters and airlines are suffering greatly. Because of the economic impact of Covid-19 the need for food assistance is greater than in years past so we decided cancelling our annual fundraising event would not be the right thing to do. I posted a big group picture of everyone that showed up last year but many churches and individuals made donations without taking part in the actual walk. So this year anyone that wants to walk can take a walk anywhere they would like and share a pic on social media. Donations can be made online and we will have an in-person drop site. I’m not asking my readers to support this local cause; if you live in Calhoun or Gordon County you’ve probably seen or heard or ads. There is likely a similar need in your community and there are ways to reach out even if it’s not the way you’ve always done it.

MLB Postseason – That’s Adam Duvall making his home run trot that put the Braves up 3-0 last night. The Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals are split one game each in their best of 5 National League Division Series. The Nationals and Dodgers are also evenly split in the other NLDS; meanwhile in the American League the Yankees took game one over the Twins and Astros beat the Rays. Continue reading
