Satur-deja Vu

Satur-deja Vu is not just a review. It also gives me a chance to drop in some things I couldn’t find a place for, and perhaps mention a topic that will not be getting its own post for whatever reason. It lets us take inventory. I used to call My Other Blog “the bottom file cabinet draw of the blogosphere.” Saturday is when we organize the file cabinet.

Back-to-School affects people differently.

Other parts of the country start school a little later. There are nine states with tax free holidays this weekend, click the map below for more details. Even if you don’t have kids at home the tax free items may include electronics, printers and other home office supplies. Dates and restrictions vary by state. I mention it here because we’ve done back-to-school editions of Happy Monday in past years (here’s one) but I don’t think it’s on the schedule for this year.

Is the Bible Just a Book? My theater appreciation teacher in college shared this story with us. A set decoration piece with a Bible sitting on it was being struck from the stage during a show and the Bible fell on the floor. For the rest of the show actors would step on or kick it as the entered and exited their scenes. Many in the audience wanted to know what the director was trying to say with Bible trampling of the Bible. The truth was his actors were so rigged in their blocking no one simply picked up the falling prop to carry it off the set. I might should mention this was a private Baptist college. Is the Bible Just a Book? is probably the best post I wrote this week and that anecdote just didn’t get in there somehow.

But if you really want to bring the hate start talking about how much you love candy corn. I’ve got friends talking about hoodies, bonfires, pumpkins and hot chocolate… everybody just calm down. Memorial Day and Labor Day are the unofficial first and last holiday weekends of summer. Fall does not even begin until the third week of September. This is my time, all y’all can wait your turn. Frosty windshield scraping/Theraflu sipping season will get here soon enough.

It would have been in the post had I received it just a little sooner. More importantly, there is now a follow button on the right-hand sidebar which this design theme had been missing. Logged in WordPress user will be directed to follow in WordPress while all others can enter an e-mail address. The follow widget shows the total of both.

American pastime – Summer is not over and neither is baseball season. My team is the Braves and they are doing well this year. But any National League team getting to the World Series will have to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers. With a record of 72 wins and 40 losses they have been the best team in Major League Baseball for a while now. (In the American League the Houston Astros have just about matched them recently.) The Braves are currently split 1-1 in a 4 game series with the Cincinnati Reds which were of course Michael Spencer’s team. As of this morning they are 6 games ahead of the Washington Nationals in the NL East.

Well I guess that’s about it. Hope this post finds you enjoying a lazy Saturday afternoon, perhaps catching up on a bit of light reading, social media and whatnot. Tomorrow’s day of rest is often the longest day of the week for pastors. I’ll check in with you on Monday. Peace and God bless.
